FAQ about Sintering Furnaces
Depending on the desired sintering process, different furnace models are suitable for sintering zirconia:
For conventional long-term sintering of zirconia, Nabertherm offers the furnace model LHT ../17 D and LHTCT ../06.
For speed-sintering processes of zirconia, the Nabertherm sintering furnaces of the LHT ../17 LB Speed series are suitable.
For super-speed sintering processes with particularly short cycle times, the LHT 01/16 Turbo Fire model is recommended.
This allows the appropriate sintering furnace to be selected depending on laboratory size, throughput, and the desired process duration.
Furnace model | Maximum number of crowns |
LHT 01/16 Turbo Fire | 5 |
LHT 01/17 LB Speed | 30 |
LHT 01/17 D | 30 |
LHTCT 01/16 | 30 |
LHTCT 03/16 | 60 |
LHT 03/17 D | 75 |
LHT 02/17 LB Speed | 75 |
The specified values refer to single crowns in standard size. The actual load capacity may vary depending on the indication, as partial bridges and full-arch restorations (e.g. extensive bridge constructions or complete dental arches) require significantly more volume inside the sintering container. As a result, the maximum possible load per sintering cycle is reduced accordingly.
The replacement intervals for heating elements in dental furnaces vary, as they depend on several factors. The most important factors are the frequency of furnace use and the process temperatures applied.
Insufficient cleaning or operation outside the specified parameters may also lead to deposits forming on the heating elements, which can result in accelerated wear.
The cost of heating elements depends on the respective furnace model and the type of heating element used. We differentiate between SiC heating elements and molybdenum disilicide heating elements (MoSi), which means prices may vary accordingly.
SiC heating elements are used in our LHTCT furnaces and are only replaced as a complete set. With MoSi heating elements, it is possible to replace individual defective elements separately.

Before first use, it is important to properly burn in the furnace and/or the heating elements. During this process, moisture and production-related residues are safely removed from the insulation and the heating elements.
The controlled burn-in process also builds up or stabilizes the protective layer of the heating elements. This supports the service life as well as the reliable and safe operation of the furnace.
The burn-in procedure may vary depending on the furnace model and the type of heating element used. More detailed information can be found in the operating manual of your furnace.
The sintering programs can be downloaded free of charge and very easily from our download portal onto a USB stick. Select your sintering furnace model and choose the manufacturer and material. You can then download the appropriate program for your sintering process onto a USB stick.
To load the program into the controller, a USB port is located directly on the controller.
The firing and pressing programs can be downloaded free of charge and very easily from our download portal onto a USB stick. Suitable programs are available for all common material manufacturers for your firing and/or pressing process.
To transfer the program to the controller, save the program onto a USB stick and transfer it directly to your furnace via the USB port on the Nabertherm controller.
The furnace should be regularly inspected for possible damage and cleaned if necessary, for example by carefully vacuuming the interior. More detailed information for your specific model can be found in the operating instructions of your furnace.
In addition to the heating elements, wear parts may also include ceramic holders, braided wire bands, contact clamps, thermocouples, and door and table insulation, depending on the furnace model.
Some models also include tension springs and base plates, which may need to be replaced after a certain period depending on the intensity of use.
The warranty for your dental furnace is 12 months from the date of purchase. It is possible to extend the warranty for an additional charge.
The duration of a sintering cycle depends on the material used and the respective furnace type. Different materials require individual temperature and holding times in order to achieve optimal results.
Depending on the application, a sintering cycle may therefore take less than one hour or several hours. An overview of achievable cycle times in Nabertherm sintering furnaces can be found here.
Please observe the instructions provided in the operating instructions of your furnace.
The furnace must be installed in a dry room.
The table/shelf surface must be level. The furnace must be placed on a non-combustible surface.
The load-bearing capacity of the table must be designed according to the weight of the furnace including accessories.
The flooring must be made of non-combustible material.
The operator is responsible for ensuring adequate ventilation and exhaust air at the installation site through suitable air supply and exhaust systems.
It must be ensured that the heat radiated by the furnace is dissipated (if necessary, a ventilation specialist should be consulted).
A minimum safety distance of 0.5 m on all sides and 1.0 m above the furnace from combustible materials must be maintained.
The furnace and control system are not designed for outdoor operation.
